- Queensland multi award winning country artist Keri
McInerney is back with a fun toe-tapping radio single.
The enterprising singer and songwriter has teamed up with industry
mates Golden Guitar Finalists Steve Eales former lead singer of
Sovereign and Michael O’Rourke to record a collaborative version
of the hit single ‘Stuck In The Middle With You’ written by Gerry
Rafferty and Joe Egan.

Two Gold Guitar Nominations
for Michael O’Rourke

Michael O’Rourke faces strong opposition in
the 35th CMAA Country Music Awards Of Australia Male Artist of the
Year nominations with ABC Music artists Graeme Connors (Louisa) Travis
Collins (Full Tank) and Lee Kernaghan (The New Bush) and Compass Bros
Records Adam Brand (Open Ended Heartache).
With 2 Gold Guitar nominations 2 Southern Star Independent nominations
2 Top Ten Listener nominations and a QLD Gold Medallion nomination
Michael’s song ‘The Hat’ co-written with Glenda Hunt is a worthy
contender in any category.
Thrilled with the CMAA announcement in Sydney Michael said ‘being the
only Independent Male to make final 5 in Male Artist of the Year is no
mean feat considering the huge amount of talent on the Independent
Artist Roster at the moment.’
In fact Michael’s been in good company most of the year.
In August he appeared at the Toyota National Country Music Muster at
Amamoor near Gympie performing ‘The Hat’ to live audiences whilst in
Toowoomba he was named in the QLD Gold Medallion Awards in final
nominations for Male Vocalist of the Year with Troy Cassar Daly
(Lonesome But Free) Lee Kernaghan (The New Bush) Arthur Blanch (I’d
Better Write It Down) and Noel Parlane (If Heartaches Meant Gold).
In September at Southern Stars Australian Independent Country Music
Awards in Mildura he made the final five lists in both Australian
Independent Male Vocalist of the Year with Paul Costa (It’s Good To Be
Me) Travis Sinclair (A Heavenly Body) James Blundell (Greylands) and
the Traditional Section of the Australian Independent Heritage Track
of the Year against Dean Perrett (Would Clancy Be Welcome) Tracy
Coster (I Don’t Want To Talk About Rain) and Tania Kernaghan (Higher
Ground).
In November the ACMLA (Listeners’ Awards) voted ‘The Hat’ in the top
ten in two categories Best Bush Ballad and Best Heritage Song and a
top five in the Best Bush Ballad with Graham Rodger (The Battle Of
Long Tan & What Country’s All About) ) Anita Ree (Saltwater Creek
Sliprails) Dean Perrett (Would Clancy Be Welcome?)
‘The Hat’ is described as -

‘a reflective ballad that truly demonstrates Michael's vocal charm as
he plays with the strong lyrics of this award winning song’;
‘simply a beautiful laconic melody with superb vocal and equally
beautiful guitar work’;

In 2004 the singer/songwriter Michael and co-writer Glenda were
awarded the TSA SEQ Tamworth Song Writers South East Queensland
Professional Australian Country Song of the Year.
The Hat is on Michael's critically acclaimed new album Till Forever Is
Gone recorded in London Berlin and Australia and produced by James

Released for Radio Airplay -
Michael O'Rourke ‘The Hat'
co-produced by James Roche and Michael Fix
Released this week on NfS 106 for radio airplay 'The Hat' is a
melancholy mix of sweet music and reminiscent lyrics co-produced by
James Roche and Michael Fix.
A reflective ballad The Hat truly demonstrates Michael's vocal charm
as he plays with the strong lyrics of this award winning song.
It's just simply a beautiful laconic melody with superb vocal and
equally beautiful guitar work.
If you like a sentimental ballad with a tale of irony then you will
love the talents of Michael Fix and the absolute lyric penned by
Michael O’Rourke and Glenda Hunt.
Michael met co-writer Glenda one night after a show in Tamworth
several years ago when she was ill with cancer. Glenda had written
words to a poem and sought Michael’s input. Together they worked on
the end lyric. Sadly Glenda passed away without knowing its potential.
It was however played as a fitting tribute at her service surrounding
the congregation as she was taken from the church.
The Hat is on Michael's critically acclaimed new album Till Forever Is
Gone available through One Stop Entertainment. You can hear the song
live at the Gympie Muster in late August.

NfS 106 The Hat
‘Twelve years old he’ll never forget the
sound
The day they pulled the old shed down
………………………………………………….
Amongst the has-beens and bric-a-brac
There inside was a drover's hat
Showing signs of harder days
It was a faded tan with a turned up brim
…………………………………………………
They say as a young man grows old
His hat’s a mirror to his soul
Print out and have
the memories
